Why Cybersecurity is a Myth: Episode 2

Cybersecurity is a Myth – What You Need to Know

In our previous post on this topic, we suggested the idea of being completely secure online is a journey, more than a destiny – if you haven’t heard this shocking news yet, be sure to check out our previous article for all the details: (Why Cybersecurity is a Myth)

Now that we are all on the same page that Cybersecurity is a myth, how can businesses navigate their way to a secure yet impactful business environment?

Risk Management is an important part of any organization’s strategy and Cybersecurity is only one piece of this much larger puzzle. The future of risk management is unclear, as evidenced by a recent survey done with our customers. Ten of our customers were addressed with the question, “Do you have a robust Risk Management Program?” 6 out of 10 customers had no knowledge on the concept at all, while another responded that they assumed we were already handling it for them. Only 3 individuals seemed to have some grasp of a Risk Management Program.

6 out of 10 customers had no knowledge on Risk Management... while another responded they assumed we were already handling it for them.

With only three people responding “sort of” when asked if an appropriate response is being implemented, it’s clear that this is a tragedy worth addressing. Executive Leadership often promotes the need for SWOT analyses, but too rarely do we see action taken in response to threats identified.

While pressing the proverbial ‘safe button’ to guarantee success may seem like an attractive option, it’s not that simple. We want our products and services to be the answer – but they’re only part of it. The other element is complex, something many businesses don’t have a solution for…or do they? This crucial factor of Risk Management could be much easier than the services we offer. Creating lasting cultural change within your organization is essential in annual planning sessions and strategic meetings. If not, one day you might end up splashed across news headlines because behind-the-scenes neglect led to business failure!

Don’t leave your cybersecurity to chance! Embrace the power of a solid cybersecurity strategy with the captivating NIST Security Framework’s dynamic 5 Domains: Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recover. The ultimate roadmap to building a rock-solid Risk Management Program starts by embracing a stellar management framework like EOS, ECP, or Baldrige. Level up your operational maturity by honing in on strategic planning, risk management, and continual improvement.

By embracing this innovative business approach, you can effortlessly dissolve 90% of your cybersecurity worries. Let your IT or MSP provider handle the remaining 9%, achieving a fantastic 99% protection barrier. But be cautious, the elusive final 1% proves that complete “cybersecurity” is indeed a myth.

With General Informatics, your organization can safeguard its most valuable data with their comprehensive products and services. Don’t leave it to chance; choose expert protection and remain vigilant. Fore more information, read about General Informatics’ security services.
