After partnering with General Informatics for managed services support, EnviroVac began a broader modernization initiative aimed at strengthening its IT environment and supporting long-term growth.
As part of this roadmap, General Informatics led a full migration of EnviroVac’s server infrastructure into the GI Cloud platform. The transition required secure connectivity between environments, coordinated planning, and careful validation to ensure continuity for end users throughout the process.

Building a Cloud Strategy for Long-Term Growth
Before migrating into GI Cloud, EnviroVac operated within another hosted cloud environment managed by a separate provider. While the company’s infrastructure remained functional, challenges around responsiveness, support experience, and long-term flexibility created an opportunity to modernize their environment with a more strategic IT partner.
General Informatics initially onboarded EnviroVac into its managed services program, improving visibility into the environment and establishing operational trust through ongoing support. That foundation naturally progressed into a cloud migration initiative aligned with the organization’s long-term technology roadmap.
The next phase involved migrating EnviroVac’s full server infrastructure from its existing provider into GI Cloud while maintaining business continuity for approximately 140 users. The migration also carried strict timing requirements tied to the client’s existing provider agreement, creating a compressed implementation timeline that required detailed coordination from the beginning.

Detailed Discovery and Strategic Planning
One of the biggest challenges during the project was limited visibility into EnviroVac’s existing environment. Because the company was still under contract with its previous provider, infrastructure access and communication channels were initially restricted, making discovery more complex.
To prepare for the migration, General Informatics conducted multiple planning sessions with EnviroVac’s stakeholders to map business-critical applications, user connectivity, server dependencies, and infrastructure requirements. From there, the cloud engineering team developed a phased migration plan focused on maintaining operational continuity throughout the transition.
As part of the preparation process, General Informatics:
- Provisioned a dedicated GI Cloud tenant for EnviroVac
- Configured secure site-to-site VPN tunnels between environments
- Deployed a new domain controller within GI Cloud
- Installed backup agents across critical virtual machines
- Performed and validated full server backups prior to migration
This approach allowed data to remain continuously synchronized between environments leading up to cutover, significantly reducing downtime during the migration itself.
Executing the Migration with Minimal Disruption
Once the migration window was approved, General Informatics coordinated a planned maintenance period to complete the final cutover. During that window, the cloud team performed final backup passes, restored workloads into GI Cloud, updated DNS records, assigned new IP addressing, and validated connectivity across the environment.
Because the migration involved EnviroVac’s full server infrastructure, the project required a complete, but carefully controlled, outage window. Despite the complexity of the environment, the migration was completed ahead of schedule within the allotted maintenance period.
Following the cutover, General Informatics immediately initiated testing procedures to validate:
- Server availability
- Network connectivity
- Active Directory functionality
- VPN access
- Core application functionality
Improving Security, Visibility, and Scalability
In addition to migrating workloads into GI Cloud, General Informatics used the project as an opportunity to strengthen EnviroVac’s overall security posture and improve infrastructure efficiency.
During the migration, MFA protections were implemented for remote VPN users, enhancing secure access controls that were not previously in place. The team also identified legacy servers that were no longer necessary within the environment, helping reduce ongoing infrastructure and management costs.
The migration additionally positioned EnviroVac for future growth. At the time of the project, leadership was already evaluating potential acquisitions that could significantly expand the size of the organization and its technology requirements. With infrastructure now operating inside GI Cloud, the environment is better equipped to scale alongside the business.
