- Client: Located in Sunshine, LA, Chem Carriers is a barge line, specializing in the transportation of bulk liquid cargoes via the US Inland Waterway System. The company acquired a shipyard in 2008 and opened additional offices as a result.
- Situation: Chem Carriers experienced a tremendous growth and it was time to replace the aging analog phone system to extend services to its multi-building office. Additionally, the company needed a menu driven phone system with auto attendant— something their old phone system couldn’t do.
- Solution: ShoreTel IP System, with its Unified Communications model, was installed. A single server at one site provided the necessary processing for two locations using the existing Ethernet network. The built-in auto attendant was programmed to answer and route different calls to different departments and forward calls after hours to an answering service.
- Benefit: The new system’s auto attendant freed up the office manager and other dispatcher’s time, allowing them to focus on what they needed to grow the business. Additionally, the system displayed a more professional image. With a single system, both of the locations were served while simultaneously providing full redundancy to each site in case of an outage.
