Multiple Law Enforcement Agencies Share Info on Stolen Vehicles in Real-Time

  • Client: Louisiana State University Police Department, East Baton Rouge Sheriffs’ Office, Baton Rouge Police Department, Kenner Police Department, Jefferson Parish Police Department and St. James Parish Police Department.
  • Situation: Every agency used their own license plate recognition system in isolation. The system, though effective in apprehending stolen vehicles, did not have an impact in their respective jurisdictions.
  • Solution: Every agency used their own license plate recognition system in isolation. The system, though effective in apprehending stolen vehicles, did not have an impact in their respective jurisdictions.
  • Benefit: The system improved the effectiveness of many agencies exponentially; now the LPR systems are able to use each other’s information to apprehend suspects even when they cross jurisdictions. Additionally, the system is helping in lowering the number of active bench warrants by proactively arresting people who are passing through these systems. All of this was achieved at 1/10th of the cost originally estimated.
